Tobacco Treatment Research Program

The Tobacco Treatment Research Program (TTRP) provides treatment for tobacco dependence free of charge to the public. The clinic functions as an observational research study and prospective data registry, where participants are followed for 6 months. Information is collected from participants as they receive tobacco dependence treatment in order to identify barriers and facilitators of tobacco cessation, provides preliminary data for future grant funding applications, and serves as a recruitment tool for ongoing research studies at TSET Health Promotion Research Center (HPRC), Stephenson Cancer Center (SCC), and the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center (OUHSC). Participants complete surveys, provide carbon monoxide breath samples and other biomeasures (e.g., height, weight) while they participate in an intensive tobacco cessation treatment. The TTRP offers weekly counseling sessions, as well as nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) and/or other pharmacological treatments at no cost to those who qualify. Participants who may be eligible for participation in other research studies may be screened or referred for screening (with the consent of the participant) when they schedule their initial appointment or during the intake session.
